Butterscotch Squares

These are a tried and true family favorite.

Square Ingredients

1/2 cup margarine
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla

Square Instructions

Melt together margarine and brown sugar in a saucepan. Remove from heat. Add eggs. Blend in vanilla. Slowly add flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well. Pour batter into a greased 9-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.

Frosting Ingredients

1 1/2 tablespoons margarine
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 cups icing sugar

Frosting Instructions

Heat margarine, milk, vanilla, and brown sugar in a saucepan until brown sugar dissolves. Beat in icing sugar until mixture reaches a good spreading consistency. Spread over cooled squares.
